Berkshire Lyric will present J.S. Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion on Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m. at Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, bringing together the Berkshire Lyric Chorus, the Lyric Children’s Chorus, a double orchestra, and six vocal soloists for its annual Masterworks Concert.
Artistic Director Jack Brown will conduct the 90-voice chorus and orchestra. Soprano Nola Richardson and baritone Jesse Blumberg will make their Berkshire Lyric debuts, while Dann Coakwell, Adriana Zabala, Sam Krausz, and Douglas Williams return as soloists.
The work, centered on the Passion story, is described in the release as a musical treatment of betrayal, judgment, sacrifice, death, and “the ultimate power of love.”
Berkshire Lyric, among the county’s long-running choral organizations, has recently performed major works by Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, and Brahms at Ozawa Hall. The chorus has also been invited by the Boston Symphony Orchestra to sing Faure this August at the Shed at Tanglewood.
Tickets are $40, with children ages 6 to 18 admitted free. Children under 6 are not admitted. Tickets are available through Berkshire Lyric, chorus members, the Ozawa Hall gate before the concert, and directly through Lyric’s ticketing page.
