The Mount, Edith Wharton Cultural Center, will host the 2026 Edith Wharton Summit from Thursday, June 4, through Saturday, June 6, bringing scholars, cultural historians, writers, and Wharton enthusiasts to Lenox for three days of programming.
Exploring Wharton’s Relevance in a Changing World
Held at Wharton’s historic estate, the summit will consider the question of Edith Wharton’s relevance today, with sessions exploring how her work continues to speak to social upheaval, cultural transformation, and the built and natural environments.
Wharton wrote in January 1932 that she felt society was “nervously sitting on the thin crust of the same volcano,” a phrase organizers are using to frame the summit’s contemporary resonance.
Three Days of Programs, Tours, and Cultural Exchange
Programming will include lectures, readings, panel discussions, behind-the-scenes tours of Wharton’s home and library, guided explorations of Lenox, and access to the estate’s historic interiors, Stable Auditorium, gardens, archives, and personal library.
The Mount says current registrants represent nine countries and 18 U.S. states. The full program is available through edithwharton.org.
