editorPITTSFIELD, Mass.—Celebrating a “Grand Re-Opening”, the BOOM Room will have special events for Arts Walk, Friday October 7 at 5pm.
Starting off the evening will be a reception for the opening of their gallery art show, “Eclectica”, curated by local artist and Berkshire Organization for Original Music (BOOM) board member Rosemary Starace. Wine and appetizers will be served. The show features work created by local musicians.
At the BOOM Room
At 6 p.m., well-known television personality John Davidson, a resident of Lenox, will perform his original songs. Davidson is best remembered for hosting “That’s Incredible”, “Hollywood Squares”, and his own talk show, as well as many guest appearances on shows such as “Love Boat.” He was a regular guest host on the Tonight Show, and has starred on Broadway and films.
Also performing in the BOOM Room that night will be popular area singer/songwriter Chad Tarves.
There is no cover charge for this, or any event at the BOOM Room. BOOM (Berkshire Organization for Original Music) is a not-for-profit arts company whose mission is to showcase and advocate for local, original music. The BOOM Room has live music every Thursday and Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. It is located in the Crawford Square building, 137 North Street in Pittsfield.
The “Grand Re-Opening” is due to the BOOM Room moving to a new space…one door down from their previous home, where they opened on September 1. The move was necessitated due to the leasing of the space to a retail tenant. BOOM’s space is donated by Crawford Square owner Steve Oakes, a supporter of their mission. “The North Street Arts District is becoming a place where one can not only see theatre or art, but also hear some great original music,” proclaimed BOOM co-founder Sandy McKnight, who started the organization with area radio newsman Tom Conklin.
On Thursday, October 6, Lee resident Liv Cummins, will perform a rare live show. Cummins, who hosts the live variety/sketch comedy show Saturday Night Liv, had a successful career as a singer/songwriter in the 1990s, before turning her attention to writing for musical theater. Her popular musicals include “Vanishing Point”, and “The Big One”, co-written with McKnight.
Also appearing on the 6th will be Sammy Brown, long-time Berkshire performer, and McKnight, whose songs are heard often on TV and in films.
Upcoming BOOM events include songwriting workshops, a performance by nationally-known songwriter Andy Pratt (October 28), and a music conference scheduled for spring 2017.
