A tremendous head and chest cold struck this week, so I offer my apologies for the obvious snuffliness. A very busy Tammy Daniels, managing editor of iBerkshires took time out from coverage of the Clarksburg State Forest fire to co-host another segment of the audio “iBeat.” Kelly Bevan McIlquham of Berkshire Family Focus, is back from vacation, though she may have left some of her brain in Fla… We speak with Jonah Sykes of the Berkshire United Way about the free screening of “Let’s Talk about Sex” that helps focus attention on the issue of the pregnancy rates among teens in the Berkshires. And of course, there is music…

We have a great show for you today, despite the very noticeable absence of Kelly Bevan McIlquham of Berkshire Family Focus, who’s taking the week off from the show while she’s on vacation somewhere warm. Tammy D. is back with the headlines, as well as the backstory behind the headlines that help it all make more sense. Northern Berkshire County is getting wired for sound (actually, that’d be wireless) as we embrace some 20th Century audio tech. And we plug in to some arresting new music from both ends of the Commonwealth.

The Greylock Glass Gets Some Perspective on the News with iBerkshires

This is a big show this week! The Top Left Corner welcomes Tammy Daniels, managing editor of iBerkshires.com, to the show. She’s going to share some back story and analysis of some of the news stories that iBerkshires has been following. Some of the issues this time of year are far from light reading (think municipal budget friction), and we’re grateful that Tammy’s writers are keeping us up to date with both the big ideas and small details.

It’s been a super busy week here at the Greylock Glass. Most of what I’ve been doing has been preparing for some really amazing developments that are cooking. Between phone calls and interviews and tweaking the tech side of this circus, I haven’t had time to do much actual writing. Or even passing along all the great information that people have been sending my way.

This season has been pretty rough on maple syrup producers in Western Massachusetts. Easily three weeks late, the sap flow that provides local sweetness to our pancakes may be plentiful or scarce—it’s all up to Mother Nature. Guest co-host Tela Zasloff of the Greylock Independent joins me interviewing Peter Phelps of Sweet Brook Farm in Williamstown, Mass. He and his wife Beth have been perfecting the art and science of sugaring on land that’s been in his family for generations.
