Join WMRFS and explore a bountiful and luscious diversified chestnut farm in Sunderland MA. Potluck, discussion & maybe even some swimming!
Big River Chestnuts is a chestnut agroforestry in Sunderland Massachusetts. They’re cultivating chestnuts, heartnuts, hazelnuts, chinkapin, elderberry, aronia, black currant, pawpaws and persimmon and more, in a way that we don’t typically see in conventional or organic farming. Agroforestry is an intentional, intensive, interactive, and integrated practice. Most importantly, it is diversified and explores both new and historic ways of working with the land. Also, there’s chickens! Greenfield farmer Martin Anderton grazes his chickens on this land.
Western MA Regenerative Food System will be hosting a gathering at Big River Chestnuts to explore the land (facilitated by Jono Neiger) and discuss what’s different about using this regenerative approach to land use and what that means for imagining and creating a regenerative future. There will be a potluck, tour, discussion, and possibly even a nice swim down on the CT if the weather is nice! Event will be held in accordance with COVID-19 state guidelines. Accessible via PVTA 31 + walk or bike.
