Kirtan with Sherrie Howard, Mark Kelso, Greg Bertsch & Kalidasa
September 18, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm EDT
Join Sherrie Howard and Mark Kelso with Gregory Bertsch and Kālidāsa Joseph Getter for an evening of singing the Divine Name. Ranging from danceable high energy grooves to soothing Sanskrit lullabies, this practice will lead you on a journey through chanting into your own depths and beyond.
Kirtan is a full-hearted way to help bring the normally busy mind into a state of peace. Instead of using traditional postures, this practice uses music and mantra as a form of yoga and meditation. It addresses the universal need to let the mind settle in order to experience the deeper dimensions of our being. The dichotomy of “performer and audience” dissolves in the moment of shared singing, dancing, and playing together.
Sherrie Howard, gifted vocalist and Kirtan Wallah, is on the faculty at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. She is a 1000 hour Kripalu Yoga teacher and graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. As a kirtan artist, Sherrie has been practicing this form of Bhakti yoga throughout the northeast and beyond. With Mark, she has been writing original melodies to many of the chants featured in the Kirtan. www.sherriehoward.com

He’s appeared with Deepak Chopra, Ram Dass, Krishna Das and Haagen-Dazs and for many years was the music director at Kripalu. Mark has appeared at Madison Square Garden, with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and was the featured musician at the World Children’s Congress hosted by Michael Jackson. www.muddyangel.com .
