Local Dance Company Synergia Dance Project Announces Debut Season In Three Upcoming Collaborative Performances Featuring Live Music, Dance, and Film By Local Artists

TROY, NY. — September, 2019 — Newly-founded Troy-based dance company Synergia Dance Project (founded by Artistic Director / choreographer and Troy Dance Factory owner Nadine Medina) announces its debut season collaboration “Dark Blue Sea” with dance set to live music stage performances by Capital Region artists Dark Honey, Girl Blue, and The Sea The Sea, alongside film narratives by locally-based Chromoscope Pictures. Performances will be held Thursday, Oct 3 at Proctors GE Theatre (Schenectady, NY) as part of Capital Records Live!, Friday, Oct 4 at Helsinki Hudson (Hudson, NY), and Friday, Oct 11 at Cohoes Music Hall (Cohoes, NY). All tickets on sale now (see below for additional performance details and individual ticket links).
Synergia Dance Project was founded in 2019 by Nadine Medina, owner and founder of Troy Dance Factory in Troy, NY. The inspiration behind the first season, centered around the quote (“Together, I lost myself with you.”), came to Medina after the dissolution of a long-term relationship, an experience that inspired her to delve into the work that must be done after you’ve lost a sense of who you truly are before a sense of self can be regained.

This idea, that it is possible to lose oneself both within and without another person, is the foundation for Synergia Dance Project, a new collaborative dance company based in Troy, NY. Combining the abstraction of dance with the raw power of live music and stunning multimedia visuals, Synergia offers its viewers the opportunity to experience and explore this idea of loss in a new, completely unique way.

Medina, a familiar and influential figure in the Troy art and dance scene, approached the ever-growing collective of Capital Region artists to establish a collaborative partnership, combining the talents of local musicians, dancers, and filmmakers to create Synergia. The show as Medina first imagined it has blossomed through her partnerships with local bands Dark Honey, Girl Blue, and The Sea The Sea; a group of core dancers from Troy Dance Factory; and with Chromoscope Pictures, a Troy-based film company. The company’s preview performance at the prestigious Inside/Out stage at Jacob’s Pillow was met with high praise. Together, this collaboration makes up “Dark Blue Sea,” a three-act narrative dance performance, featuring live music performed by the three bands, as well as multimedia elements filmed and directed by Chromoscope Pictures.
