WDIJW: Yeo Valley Advert, 2011

British Dairy brand Yeo Valley stuns the world in 2011 by releasing an advert that makes natural food seem hip. "Things will never be the same," the young rappers croon. Indeed they have not.

Opinion: Who is The Other?

by Sheila Velazquez

If you are to believe what you see in the mainstream media, most of the residents of the United States are healthy, wealthy and wise.

We live in a world where, increasingly, the gap between the haves and the have-nots doesn't just measure inequity, but absurdity. The other might as well be another species.

They drive late-model cars, wear high-end labels, eat from plates artistically drizzled with colorful sauces and have help to perform all those nasty little jobs that get one’s hands dirty. They attend the galas that reunite them with their classmates for fun and profit and select nannies to care for their privileged children, who attend exclusive pre-preschools and benefit from prepaid educations at the most prestigious universities. And the rest of us are the “Other.” According to the media.

INDIEcent Exposure #26: Moon Hooch — ”Red Sky”

We didn’t have time to set up an interview with Moon Hooch when they were in town last year, and we were darn lucky to catch James Muschler at a moment when the band was kind of (but not quite) stationary (they were going over a checklist before jumping back on the bus to start their new tour.

Brooklyn-based Moon Hooch, famous for their high-energy, danceable percussion/saxophone music, is comprised of James Muschler, Mike Wilbur, and Wenzl McGowen (submited photo).

Plenty #8: Chef Power Hour — How to influence food policy

This episode of Plenty is unusual for the unique, unfiltered look it provides into one way  advocacy can result in changes to food policy. We sat in on the September “Chef Power Hour,” a monthly meeting of the minds hosted by the Chefs Collaborative and heard some thought-provoking ideas on how chefs, a set of professionals intimately concerned with food issues, can exert influence over the legislative and regulatory processes that govern the production, distribution, and preparation of our meals.

Chefs Collaborative is a national nonprofit network with a mission to inspire, educate, and celebrate chefs and food professionals building a better food system. Their most recent Chef Power Hour focused on ways to influence food policy.

INDIEcent Exposure #25: Alicia Beale — ”Ignite”

This episode of INDIEcent Exposure marks something of a watershed moment for us here at the Greylock Glass. When Alicia Beale took us up on our invitation for an interview, somehow we both wound up thinking it was to be a video conversation. Serendipity, I say.

Alicia Beale makes her solo debut with "IGNITE," (submitted photo).

“Kill it, Daddy.”

He looked at his little girl, stiff and wide-eyed on the hotel room cot, with the covers pulled up just below her eyes. The contours of her nose, mouth, and chin under the taut sheet gave her face a shrink-wrapped look.
