What is the Berkshire Mayor’s Fitness Challenge?
This year Mayor Alcombright and the City of North Adams are again challenging newly elected Mayor Tyer and the City of Pittsfield. A collaboration of people and organizations, along with the City of North Adams, came together to plan and organize this 10 week Challenge and the Kick Off event. The Berkshire Mayor’s Fitness Challenge is a way in which the community can come together in moving towards a common goal of increasing the health and wellness of our city in a fun and inspirational way, and spreading this goal across the county.
Participants will be working to build and track points by eating fruits and vegetables, drinking water, and participating in physical activity. There are many people and partners in the community that have donated time and classes for participants of the Challenge providing a variety of fitness, nutritional, social/emotional health and tobacco cessation opportunities right here in North Adams. There are many new offerings, mini Challenge events and gatherings as well as technology incorporated into the 2016 Challenge.
Kick-Off Events and Offerings
The Kick-Off will include an inspirational speech given by Mayor Alcombright, and a health expo that will provide offerings from a holistic variety of health and wellness practitioners in our community, including some healthy food samples. There will be an opportunity for whole group physical activity provided by a variety of fitness leaders and a free raffle as well.
This event has been organized by the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition’s North Berkshire Mass in Motion, the North Adams Mayor’s Fitness Challenge Planning Team, the Northern Berkshire YMCA, the City of North Adams, and NA Fitness with Beth.
