Berkshire United Way and Northern Berkshire United Way Host Free Documentary Screening of “LET’S TALK ABOUT SEX.”
Berkshire United Way, Northern Berkshire United Way, and the Face the Facts – reduce teen pregnancy community coalition will host a free community screening of the Let’s Talk About Sex documentary on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Adams Movieplex 8 located at 80 Main Street. Parents and teenagers (over the age of 14) are invited to attend. The event will also include a raffle as well as food.
Let’s Talk About Sex, a documentary film by James Houston, looks at how American attitudes toward adolescent sexuality impact today’s teenagers. Local photographer, Julian Grey, will debut his latest collection of art that includes images aimed at provoking conversations about sex and sexuality. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with local teens and community leaders on what we can do in the Berkshires to ensure youth make healthy decisions about their futures.
The screening is a way for the Face the Facts – reduce teen pregnancy community coalition to join thousands of other groups nationwide in participating in the 14th annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, which aims to help teens prevent teen pregnancy – by gaining access to reproductive healthcare, participating in sex education in their schools, and most importantly by having honest conversations with their parents about relationships and sex.
Wishbone Zoë — “Fossil’s Dream”
With “Something Wacko” Wishbone Zoë creates a sound sculpture that layers seemingly deeply personal textures upon fragments of memory and discarded cultural mosaic tile. This track is a sample of an audio mixed-media artistic method that achieves new levels of sophistication in “Fossil’s Dream.”
If you feel that maybe you could use a little help interpreting this dream, don’t worry. You’re probably not alone. But you don’t need to plumb the depths of Saera Kochanski’s subconscious to be fully engrossed in the imagery her songs create in this brandy-new album. “Fossil’s Dream” pushes the boundaries out a bit and offers a hint of what she might be seeking in her evolving exploration of sound.
Beyond her brilliance of the lyrics, the voice of Saera Kochanski will impress you with its seemingly bottom stores of power pushed through a small, precision-machined port. Kochanski does not care if her singing about, thus drawing uncomfortable attention to, the “not-so-okay in the world” makes us squirm. Enjoy the brittle feeling your brain gets after immersing yourself in “Fossil’s Dream.” Then slide yourself on over to Bandcamp where you can pick up a copy of her CD or digital download.
